Meet David!

Hello, I am the father of two daughters and husband to my wife Christine, who is a lifelong resident of Delmar. Together we purchased our first home in Bethlehem in 1999. We choose to raise our family in Bethlehem because of the truly amazing quality of life found here. This quality of life we enjoy is largely due to our neighbors, friends and family who volunteer countless hours at various community groups, organizations, and at our schools.

I believe in order to understand who I am; you need to know about my upbringing.

I am the proud son of Cuban refugees. My parents came to the United States in 1962 with only a bag and two outfits. They left behind their family, culture, and language for a better life for themselves and their new growing family.

Growing up among only a handful of Spanish speaking families had its challenges and it taught me hard life lessons at an early age. Growing up, my mom was a volunteer and a teachers’ aide. My dad worked tirelessly at two to three jobs while always reminding us that because of who we were, we had to work harder than everyone else to achieve our dreams.

Every day I do my best to honor the sacrifices made by my parents and to live up to the example set by my mom. She instilled in us the need to give back to this great country that gave our family hope and opportunity. That is why I have always been and will be an active member of our community.

I have built lasting relationships with so many great people that I never would have had the opportunity to know if I had not volunteered. These relationships have shown me that despite our different life experiences, backgrounds, and ideologies, we all have one thing in common — our desire to make our community the best place to live in, raise a family, and own a small business.

I have realized that if I am elected as your town board member, I can help bring our community even closer together and have a great impact on this town.

I believe we all have so much more in common than what divides us. We all want what’s best for our children, parents, grandparents, families, friends, and neighbors.

As a parent, I worry about our kids’ safety and well-being, as well as being able to pay our bills while trying to save for college and retirement. I know many seniors and retirees are living on a fixed income and worry about being able to stay close to their family and grandkids.

I understand the challenges our small businesses face. These are the same businesses that support our school teams, youth sports, and various other community groups. And now more than ever we must be there for them and buy local to help ensure that they can recover and thrive.

By working together, we will ensure our community will grow stronger for generations to come.

As your town board member, I will bring a new energy, perspective and transparency to town government and build on what I have been doing for nearly 20 years — rolling up my sleeves and working with, for, and alongside you to make Bethlehem a place we can all be proud to call home. In addition, I will donate a portion of my town board salary to non-profits, community groups and causes.

I’m David DeCancio and I’m asking for your trust and vote for Bethlehem Town Board!
